ABN AMRO Bank (Polska) S.A.
MIGA issued a $21.8 million guarantee to ABN AMRO Bank, N.V., for its equity investment in the establishment of a bank in Poland. MIGA coverage was issued against currency transfer and expropriation risks.
The project enterprise, created in 1991as Interbank, S.A., was taken over in 1992 by the National Bank of Poland, which sought new investors to operate the financially distressed bank. ABN subsequently bought a majority interest in the bank and created ABN AMRO Bank (Polska), S.A., to provide corporate and investment banking to medium-size domestic banks and companies.
