MIGA issued an $8 million guarantee to Sithe International, Inc. of the United States for its equity investment in the construction and operation of Tapal Energy Limited, a 126-megawatt power plant in Sind Province, Pakistan. MIGA's guarantee covers the investment against the risk of war and civil disturbance. In fiscal 1997, MIGA had issued $2 million in coverage against expropriation risks to Wärtsilä Power Development, Inc. of the United States for its equity investment in the project.
