MIGA Announces Launch of Arabic-Language Investment Promotion Website

(Arabic)

SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt, November 29, 2006—The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), a member of the World Bank Group, announced today the launch of the Arabic-language version of FDI Promotion Center, an online knowledge-sharing and learning portal for investment promotion professionals in developing countries.

The FDI  Promotion  Center (www.fdipromotion.com) provides resources to help countries improve their ability to market foreign investment opportunities. The centerpiece is a toolkit that focuses on nine key aspects of investment promotion, including understanding foreign direct investment, creating a promotional strategy, and strengthening a location’s image.

The FDI  Promotion  Centeralso includes a wide-ranging collection of promotional tools, including case studies, sample presentations and advertising materials, guidelines and checklists, sample terms of reference, and sector and country-specific analyses to aid investment promotion practitioners in their daily work of attracting and retaining foreign investors.

“The Arabic website is the third in a number of language-specific websites we have launched in response to the growing demand for capacity-building assistance by investment promotion intermediaries around the world,” says John Wille, Lead Investment Promotion Officer, MIGA. “By providing region-specific content in local languages, the regional websites increase investment promotion practitioners’ reach and access to key resources and information.” The other two regional websites are in Russian and Serbian.

MIGA created the Arabic-language website, which will incorporate local case studies and best practices, in cooperation with the Inter-Arab Investment Guarantee Corporation (IAIGC). Its aim is to support the professional development of investment promotion practitioners of different levels and experience in the region. The Arabic-language website is expected to highlight the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the development of the Middle East and North Africa region and help practitioners build their capacity to effectively promote their locations to global FDI movers.

The FDI  Promotion  Centeris part of MIGA’s suite of online information services, including FDI.net, which offers prospective foreign investors information needed to make informed investment decisions, and PRI-Center, which provides investors with the latest intelligence and information on political risk mitigation.
