WASHINGTON, DC; Seoul, Korea,  February 3, 2016—The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group, announced the appointment of Jae Hyung Kwon for the position of Senior Underwriter and Head of North Asia based in Korea.

In his new role, Kwon will oversee MIGA's business in China, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia.

Kwon said, "I am honored to support MIGA's clients in a geography to which I'm deeply connected." He added, "The sub-region represents a mix of countries where MIGA aims to facilitate both inbound and outbound investment. Our role is very interesting here and I'm excited to have this opportunity."

Kwon joined MIGA's infrastructure team in 2012, based in the agency's Washington, DC headquarters. Prior to joining MIGA, Kwon worked at Standard Chartered Bank in Korea and Singapore as Associate Director. Previously, Kwon was an associate in the Trading and Investment Group at Samsung C&T.

While export-credit agencies (ECAs) in China, Japan, and Korea play an important part in catalyzing investment and building infrastructure across the region and beyond, there are opportunities for greater collaboration and for MIGA to support certain investments ineligible for support from the ECAs.

Keiko Honda, MIGA's Executive Vice President and CEO, said "I'm very pleased to see Jae take the skills and knowledge he has proven in Washington to be closer to our North Asia-based clients."

MIGA was created in 1988 as a member of the World Bank Group to promote foreign direct investment into emerging economies to support economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve people’s lives. MIGA fulfills this mandate by offering political risk insurance and credit enhancement to investors and lenders.
