In its first power project in Costa Rica, MIGA issued $11.4 million in coverage to ERI Holdings II and Scotia Mercantile Bank, for their equity investment and loan, respectively, to construct a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant. The guarantees include coverage against the risks of transfer restriction and expropriation.

The project, located northeast of San José in the province of Heredia, will use the waters of the Puerto Viejo River and Quebradon Creek to generate an estimated average annual net production of approximately 88 gigawatt hours. The project will also provide training to employees on standards and procedures in the operation and maintenance of the power plant and turbines.

Note: Contract with ERI Holdings II has been cancelled.
