MIGA issued a $14 million guarantee to Banque Nationale de Paris for its shareholder loan to BNP-Dresdner Bank to expand its banking operations in Bulgaria. The guarantee covers the investment against the risks of transfer restriction and expropriation.

BNP-Dresdner Bulgaria offers a full range of corporate and international banking services, such as short-term credit facilities, commodity trade financing, treasury and consulting services, including strategic advice on national and international investments and the provision to foreign companies of local business information.

The project will increase the availability of longer term funds for Bulgarian companies at competitive prices. In addition, the bank is expected to employ about 140 Bulgarian nationals by the end of 1999 and provide banking and financial training.
