WASHINGTON, March 5, 2025 – The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency of the World Bank Group (MIGA), which houses the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform, will present its 10th annual Gender Leadership Award to Loubna Ghaleb, Board Member at Tanger Med Group, on Friday, March 7. The award is presented annually to mark International Women’s Day.

Established in 2016, the MIGA Gender Leadership Award recognizes senior leaders who have a proven track record of advancing gender equality in businesses while contributing to the mission of the World Bank Group to end extreme poverty and boost prosperity on a livable planet.

Ms. Ghaleb has over 20 years of experience in Tanger Med Group, having risen through the ranks from head of partnerships to her current role as a member of the Board of Directors and Head of Projects and Financing. She is a key force in driving the gender and other sustainability initiatives at Tanger Med Group.

We are delighted to present the 10th annual Gender Leadership Award to Loubna Ghaleb,” said Hiroshi Matano, MIGA Executive Vice President. “Her unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality and sustainability at Tanger Med is truly inspiring. This award recognizes her exceptional leadership and the significant impact she has made in promoting opportunities for women in the industry. We look forward to seeing her continued success driving positive change in the future.”

Ms. Ghaleb played a key role in the development of Tanger Med and has been instrumental in financing different projects of the Group, including expanding the Tanger Med Port Complex and enhancing Morocco’s position as a global logistics hub. She led the team that recently negotiated a partnership with the World Bank Group to expand the truck and passenger terminal. Through this initiative, Tanger Med aims to promote women’s participation in the maritime and port sectors by expanding access to jobs and leadership positions.

I am grateful to the World Bank Group for this award and for the recognition of the role of women in Tanger Med, the leading port in the Mediterranean and Africa,” said Loubna Ghaleb. This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts and determination of the Tanger Med Group team in promoting women’s role in the port and maritime sector and driving positive change across the field. Together, we can build a more inclusive and prosperous future for all.”

According to the United Nations, women's participation in the global labor market remains below 50%, a figure that has seen little improvement over the past 25 years. A 2024 UN report revealed that the global economy incurs a loss of approximately $10 trillion annually due to inadequate investment in women's education and gender equality initiatives. Moreover, low- and middle-income countries risk losing $500 billion over the next five years if they fail to close the digital gender divide.

The 2025 Gender Leadership Award event will be live streamed on Friday, March 7 from 10 to 11:30 AM ET, and will be available for replay at the same address. For more information about the award, please visit our site.
