IPAnet Partners with Business Map to Provide Investment Analyses on Southern Africa

Washington, June 26, 2000 — The Investment Promotion Network (IPAnet), the World Bank Group’s Internet portal for international corporate investors, will now feature updated investment analyses on Southern Africa, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency announced today.

The content is the result of a newly established partnership between MIGA, a member of the World Bank Group, and BusinessMap SA, a South Africa-based research and consultancy services provider.

BusinessMap is the first African partner of IPAnet. It joins US-based companies Trade Compass, Industry Watch, and Northern Light.

The partnership will add "significant new depth to IPAnet’s African resource offering," says Karin Millett, MIGA’s director of Investment Marketing Services Department. "BusinessMap’s research capabilities and access to business and political leaders in the region will help IPAnet users keep up-to-date on foreign investment in the Southern Africa development community."

BusinessMap CEO Jenny Cargill says she hopes the partnership will "be the beginning of an increasing commitment to provide quality information appropriate to supporting foreign direct investment in Southern Africa."

About BusinessMap
BusinessMap SA offers investment analysis and advice to firms seeking to invest in Southern African businesses. BusinessMap’s offerings include a subscription-based online service providing access to a variety of investment databases, specialized business briefings, and a business and investment resource center—all of which can be tailored to clients’ needs. The company also conducts commissioned research and provides advisory services that address strategic investment considerations.

BusinessMap specializes in globalization and investment; development finance; black economic empowerment; and policy and political affairs.

The company’s web site offers more information on membership and BusinessMap’s e-commerce facility, through which nonmembers can purchase specific reports.

About the Investment Promotion Network
Established in 1995, IPAnet is one of the premier online services featuring information on business operating conditions, investment-related laws and regulations, as well as specific project and privatization opportunities in emerging markets. Selected as a "public sector" finalist by the Financial Times for its 1998 Business Web Site of the Year award, this information service has been recognized as a key resource by multinational corporations and investment promotion professionals worldwide. Its catalog of over 10,000 web documents relating to foreign direct investment (FDI)—classified by country, investment topic, and sector—makes it a unique resource for companies seeking to expand into developing economies.

IPAnet houses a worldwide Business Directory providing searchable contact information for over 19,000 organizations and professionals involved in FDI, a searchable calendar featuring investment-related events by leading conference organizations, and links to other relevant news and information sources.

In October 1999, IPAnet was upgraded to include a specialized news feed focusing on FDI issues; the first comprehensive web directories of investment promotion and privatization agencies in emerging markets; and an online guide to government and multilateral agencies that provide financial, risk management, and analytical services to companies investing in the developing world.
