Partnerships
In promoting FDI into developing countries, MIGA has traditionally worked in close cooperation with other public and private organizations to mobilize insurance capacity, co-finance technical assistance programs, disseminate investment information, and promote best practices. These partnerships take many forms.
To further its guarantees business, MIGA partners with other insurance providers to ensure complementarity of services and approach, to increase the political risk insurance industry’s capacity as a whole, and to encourage insurers into markets where they may not feel comfortable on their own. To this end, MIGA has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 39 partners from 31 countries.
To support investment in conflict-affected environments, MIGA partners with other multilateral and bilateral donors, in addition to other political risk insurers, to develop specialized guarantee facilities. Post-conflict guarantee facilities have been created for Bosnia and Herzegovinia, West Bank and Gaza, as well as Afghanistan. MIGA has also partnered with bilateral and multlilateral donors to fund long-term country and region-specific technical assistance programs. more
MIGA also establishes partnerships with public and private sector organizations—including investment promotion intermediaries, business associations, and government and private business information providers—to help in the development of the agency’s investor information services. In addition to contributing financial and technical resources, these organizations help contribute information resources related to investment opportunities in their countries or regions.
Donor Partners
The following is a partial list of past and current donors to MIGA’s technical assistance and dispute resolution activities, as well as the agency’s special investment guarantee facilities:
Private Sector Liaison Officers Network
The Private Sector Liaison Officers (PSLOs) Network, which was launched in January 1999 as a joint initiative of the European offices of the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA, strengthens the relationship between the World Bank Group and the private sector. PSLOs, based in business intermediary organizations around the world, work to foster trade and investment in developing countries. PSLOs facilitate companies’ access to the knowledge and the business opportunities offered by the World Bank Group, and help the agency engage leading companies on development issues.
