Romanian Efes Brewery S.A.

MIGA issued a $29.97 million guarantee to Efes Breweries International, B.V. of the Netherlands for its investment in the construction and operation of a greenfield brewery in Ploiesti, about 40 miles north of Bucharest. The guarantee covers the investment against the risk of war and civil disturbance.

The project will create an estimated 400 jobs, and staff will be trained in modern manufacturing techniques, sales, marketing, management, distribution, and safety procedures. Romanian businesses will benefit from the project since Romanian Efes Brewery S.A. (REB) will procure most of its supplies locally. In addition, REB intends to encourage local farmers and cooperatives to plant improved strains of barley and to install adequate storage facilities so that its malt requirements can be met entirely from domestic sources.
