Policies Overview
MIGA’s work is guided by policies and standards designed to ensure that the projects it supports, or is considering supporting, are disclosed in a transparent manner; meet international best-practice environmental and social standards; and are free of corruption. During the underwriting of a project, MIGA identifies the policies and guidelines that are applicable to a project. Projects are expected to comply with those policies and guidelines, as well as applicable local, national, and international laws.
On October 1, 2007, MIGA instituted a new Policy on Disclosure of Information, as well as new Policy and Performance Safeguards on Social and Environmental Sustainability. The new policies benefited from international consultations with government officials, nongovernmental organization representatives, investors and lenders, and others.
MIGA’s anti-corruption and anti-fraud standards, which took effect in October 2006, are part of an overall World Bank Group effort to establish higher standards for sustainability and corporate governance in the projects it supports.
