Sweeping Changes to MIGA’s Convention Expand Agency’s Reach

In a historic show of support, MIGA’s Council of Governors approved a variety of changes to the agency’s convention. These changes, including the ability to insure project debt without insuring a portion of the equity, are allowing MIGA to expand its reach and support more developmentally beneficial investment projects.

New MIGA Report Examines FDI and Perceptions of Political Risk in 2010 

MIGA launched World Investment and Political Risk 2010 at a seminar “Managing Global Political Risk” jointly hosted with the Financial Times. The report focuses on investor perceptions of risk in conflict-affected and fragile economies. Events are also scheduled for Johannesburg, Singapore, Washington, and Vienna.

Industry Leaders Weigh in on Political Risk Insurance 

The seventh biannual MIGA-Georgetown Symposium on International Political Risk Management was held on October 28, 2010. At the last symposium in 2008, the global financial crisis was just unfolding. This year participants noted that the political risk insurance industry weathered the crisis well and that capacity remains strong.

November marked the one-year anniversary of MIGA’s blog “Political Risk and Emerging Markets.” Hosted on blogs.worldbank.org, MIGA’s blog has drawn a diverse readership. Recent postings include an analysis of investment in Asia and how MIGA can support investors in the certified emission reductions markets.
