The World Bank Group Environment Strategy:
Toward a Green, Clean and Resilient World for All

June 6, 2012, Washington, DC—Yesterday was World Environment Day, and we at MIGA wanted to take this opportunity to share with you the recently introduced World Bank Group Environment Strategy: Toward a Green, Clean and Resilient World for All. This is the first time there has been an integrated approach in this area across all the institutions of the World Bank Group, and it sets out a new development path which supports growth while focusing on sustainability and inclusivity. The strategy also brings a greater focus on private sector involvement in environmental management.

We are bringing this to your attention purely on an information basis only, as we hope it will be of interest.  It is important to note that this strategy does not affect MIGA's current Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability and Performance Standards, nor does it alter any requirements that may exist under outstanding MIGA contracts of guarantee.

The link to the document is below, along with a link to the World Bank Group press release announcing the publication of the strategy. If you have any questions or comments on this strategy, we would be delighted to discuss these -- the point of contact will be Ms. Deniz Baharoglu, who heads MIGA's Environmental and Social team.
